Disappointing Performance Date: February 16, 2009
Cons: Poor quality, Expensive, Did not meet expectations

"After being extremely pleased with the low line 1080P 42" Panasonic I thought I would upgrade to the high line 58" for the living room. The 58PZ800 is a disappointment compared to the 42". Compared to the 42" the black level is gray even when set to "black-black" not "light-black". Adjusting the brightness and picture (contrast) resulted in little improvement in black level. The maximum brightness level is much lower than the 42". The picture remains uninvolving no matter how many hours were spent attempting to optimize the image. The light level in THX mode is so low it is almost unusable and the image has limited contrast. Picture has no "punch" or vibrance unlike the 42" which is vibrant. CNET was clearly wrong in picking this TV for an award. After a week of attempting to get a pleasing picture in any mode it will be returned today."

Stunning HD and Blu-Ray Picture Date: January 6, 2009
Pros: great picture

"I am extremely happy with this tv. With hd programming and a Panasonic DMP -35 blu-ray player for movies it amazes me how awesome the picture is. Standard definition is so-so, but that isn't what this tv should be used for. Football and hockey games are outstanding to watch on this set. You'll find yourself searching only to watch hd sources. I have no issues with flicker when using the 24p mode like some state to have.
You will find there is some glare on the screen and frame if you have a bright room. The THX mode does work great when the room is darker and you can use the custom mode to adjust for brighter conditions. The standard sound system is okay but hook the set to a surround sound system and you'll really be dialed in.
Overall, this set is a great value for the money and I would highly recommend it."

Best TV, period Date: December 27, 2008
Pros: Inexpensive, Exceeded expectations, great picture
Cons: not impressed by thx mode

"I am a videophile and I am really proud of Panny for such a qulaity product. I am dissapointed with the THX mode. I seldom use it. I love the Vivid mode with the following settings: Picture: +100, Brightness +62, Color: +67, Tint 0, Sharpness +100, Color Temp. Normal, Color mgmt ON, xv color Auto, CATS OFF. Under Advanced Picture, Video NR - ON, Black Level - Dark, 24p Direct in 48 Hz, HD Size: Size 2. I've had no issues with the 24p. If 24p is not turned on in the blu ray, I swear you are missing out on a great amount of detail, depth and color.

I am not sure if there is a compatibility issue between the TV and blu ray player that causes the 24p flicker at 48Hz. I have heard that the flicker occurs only at 48Hz and works just fine at 60 Hz. I am currently using a Panny BD30. Works great for me.

Pioneer 60" plasma beats this TV by a hair but it is way too expensive and not worth the extra quid."
