"An incredible amount of my life has been wasted on this poorly designed, ill conceived, troublesome unit. It has frozen 7 times in 10 months. Needs to be reset to factory defaults to restore functionality which then requires more time for reprogramming. Manual is poorly written. Clock /timer loses about 1 minute per week and needs to be reset-even the "let time be set automatically " function is faulty. What's that about? I can't really speak of the quality of recording or tuning or up-scaling because I am so frustrated that I haven't had extra time to actually use the unit after so much troubleshooting. Today it goes to factory repair, and if it returns with the same problems, I will demand my money be refunded."

"I purchased a new Panasonic DVD Recorder DMR-EZ485V, I am finding that I can not always record to a DVD, have tried several different dvd's and the recorder doesn't always work. Cannot format the disks because I can't get to the menu to format. Certainly wouldn't recomment this unit to anyone."

"I bought this unit to replace a VCR. I use DVD+RW disc and record at the LP setting which gives me 4 hours. Using the DVD+RW allows me to reuse the disc as a VHS tape, but the quality of recording is much better than a VHS. No tracking to deal with as you do with a tape. The set up was easy. Programming is as easy as a VCR. The reviewer that complained that the unit did not have a hard drive should have looked at the specs. I knew what I was buying (no hard drive). Quality play back of DVD movies is excellent. I've had no freeze up issues, but I have recieved the U99 error. If I shut the unit off and than back on it goes away. With my old DVD player there were occasions when I had to reinsert the disk to get the player to read the disk, so the U99 error is no different. Overall it's everything I wanted and works flawlessly."
