Pros: Compact, Exceeded expectations, high quality images
"Yes, it is that good. At least for me...side by side 8x10 prints as well as some deep pixel peeping are at least as good as from my Canon 20D--even with an 'L' zoom attached! Edges a little better on the Canon lens maybe. And the cost is about 1/2...kudos to the P team for getting the lenses good, Leica's design maybe?
Now that's out of the way, this camera handles perfectly, the body is just substantial enough to hold well and the surface is a pleasure to touch.
Focus is fast and silent and accurate. Exposure is as good as it gets in real world situations. I have tested it indoors with/without flash, in bright sun (no flare?!?), at sunset, and on faces, just works great. Low light/high ISO is pretty darn good too, way better than any compact and nearly as noise free as the best sensors out there. Can't ask for more.
The LVF/LCD is a real treat for my tired eyes, and I love the WYSIWYG image, I do not miss the SLR viewfinder at all, in fact I am more creative and more accurate now. User interface takes a little getting used to but pretty intuitive once you know your way around the screens.
I think this is the absolute best thing to happen to photography since the FE2 :-) The G1 is now my camera for trips, the zoo, family, and all of my 'enthusiast' endeavors!
I would highly recommend this for anyone for any purpose other than perhaps true professional sports photography.
Way to go Panasonic...now how about that wide-angle lens?"
